(Moncton) In its first of three preseason games for the World Junior Hockey Championship, which begins next week, Canada beat Switzerland 6-0 on Monday.


Shane Wright led the Canadian offense with two goals and an assist. Joshua Roy, Nathan Gaucher, Olen Zellweger and Brennan Othmann also hit the mark.

Connor Bedard had three assists, while Zach Dean and Dylan Guenther had two. Thomas Milic picked up the shutout.

The Maple Leaf led 2-0 after the first period and 5-0 after 40 minutes of play. Switzerland was outshot 42-19.

Canada was 2-for-5 on the power play, while Switzerland was 0-for-3.

Canada will complete its preparation by playing against Slovakia on Wednesday and Finland on Friday. Canada’s first game at the World Junior Hockey Championship is against the Czech Republic on Boxing Day in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
