July 1st moves | 38 people temporarily housed in emergency in Montreal

As of 1er July, while many Montrealers are moving, no less than 147 households are actively supported by the Office municipal d’habitation de Montréal (OMHM) to find housing. Added to this number are 38 people who are already urgently accommodated by the OMHM.

This 1er July will have been no exception to the rule. While some unpack the boxes, several hundred households find themselves once again in need.

According to the most recent data from the Société d’Habitation du Québec (SHQ), as of Monday morning, there were 1,296 tenant households in Quebec who are actively supported by a housing search assistance service. Across the province, 384 households are currently homeless and in a temporary accommodation situation, whether with relatives, camping or otherwise.

“In certain exceptional and emergency cases, it is possible to offer temporary accommodation, a service which varies greatly from one person to another,” explains the director of the OMHM communications service, Mathieu Vachon. This accommodation is with Montreal hotel partners. »

The organization also offers moving and storage services as possible “exceptional services.”

For its part, the office of the Mayor of the City of Montreal, Valérie Plante, says it is ready to support all those in need on this 1er July.

“The moving period is stressful for many Montrealers, who are increasingly struggling to find housing options that meet their needs and budget,” says the mayor’s office. “We are here for you.”

He invites anyone in need and who requires support for housing to call 311.
