Rodriguez hit .284 this year, with 28 home runs, 75 RBIs and 25 stolen bases.

He helped Seattle reach the playoffs for the first time since 2001.

The 21-year-old got 29 of 30 first-place votes and one second-place vote for a total of 148 points, in the Baseball Columnists of America poll.

Baltimore Orioles receiver Adley Rutschman was second with 68 points; he received the other first-rank vote.

Guardians left fielder Steven Kwan (44), Royals infielder Bobby Witt (seven) and Astros shortstop Jeremy Pena (two) also had points.

Voting was completed before the playoffs; Pena was the most valuable player in the World Series and the American League Championship Series.

Rodríguez agreed to a 12-year, $209.3 million pact in August.

Harris batted for .297 in 114 games. He had 19 home runs, 64 RBIs and 20 stolen bases.
