It was a victory that was decided in the last meters of the race between two women. And it’s finally Juliette Labous (DSM-Firmenich PostNL) who won in the sprint, Saturday June 22, in the road race of the French championships, between Avranches and Saint-Martin-de-Landelles (125 kilometers). The 25-year-old runner won her first title as French champion ahead of the FDJ-Suez armada, since Gladys Verhulst-Wild and Jade Wiel complete the podium. A good omen before the Paris Games, for which Juliette Labous is selected.

And yet, 20 kilometers from the finish, it was Jade Wiel who seemed well on her way to winning. She was up to 50 seconds ahead of the peloton of favorites, but, in the last ascent of the climb La Pigeonnière, things accelerated. Juliette Labous and Gladys Verhulst-Wild returned to the lead, before letting go of Jade Wiel. The DSM-Firmenich PostNL runner patiently waited for her compatriot to start the sprint, before imposing her freshness and power.
“It’s the first time I’ve just run, I didn’t feel very good at the start of the race, and as time went on I felt much better. I’m really so happyconfided the new French champion to the microphone of Eurosport. It was a great race. With the blue-white-red jersey, it will give me wings. The big goals will be the Olympic Games and the women’s Tour de France, but I will also do the Giro.”
