Juliette Gréco’s souvenirs sold at auction for 1.2 million euros

Some 750 lots, trinkets, furniture, works of art, dishes, jewelry and clothing of the singer were scattered, just over a year after her death.

The auction of Juliette Gréco’s souvenirs brought in a total of 1.2 million euros, auction house Crait-Müller announced on Saturday (November 20). Between Thursday and Saturday, some 750 lots, trinkets, furniture, œThe singer and actress’s works of art, dishes, jewelry and clothes were scattered, a little over a year after her death in September 2020. A large crowd of collectors and curious people came to see them at the Drouot hotel in Paris.

A painting by Serge Gainsbourg, which the latter had offered in 1959 to Juliette Gréco, was sold to him for 134,400 euros, a price much higher than his high estimate (50,000 euros). This oil on canvas, titled Children in the square, represents Gainsbourg and his sister. EA student at the Beaux-Arts, Gainsbourg (whose real name is Lucien Ginsburg) was first intended for painting and drawing before becoming a singer.

Among the most unusual pieces was a Van Cleef & Arpels directory with the telephone numbers of many celebrities from the Saint-Germain-des-Prés years, written by Gréco. It was sold for 12,160 euros. The sale was organized by Julie-Amour Rossini, granddaughter of the singer and actress.
