(Madrid) French actress Juliette Binoche will receive a lifetime achievement award at the San Sebastian film festival to be held in mid-September in Spain, organizers announced on Friday.

Juliette Binoche, 58, will thus be honored “for her vast career during which she interpreted nearly 75 characters, from the most powerful heroines to the most fragile characters, including historical figures, roles dramatic and other comedic”, details a press release from the festival, which will be held from September 16 to 24 in the seaside town of the Basque Country.
The face of the actress, who won an Oscar for The English Patient in 1996 by Anthony Minghella, also appears on the poster for this 70and editing.
After taking her first steps in the theater and training at the National Conservatory of Dramatic Art, the Parisian actress made her debut on the big screen in 1983 with Liberty Belleby Pascal Kané.
Juliette Binoche has acted in many films including Three colors: Blue (1993) for which she received the Volpi Cup at the Venice Film Festival, The English Patient (1996) for which she was crowned with the Oscar for best actress for a supporting role or even Copy (2010) which earned her the Best Actress award at the Cannes Film Festival.
Since then, she has notably worked with filmmakers such as Jean-Luc Godard, Leos Carax or Louis Malle, the Polish Krzysztof Kieslowski, the American Abel Ferrar, the Swiss Lasse Hallström, the Briton John Boorman or the Austrian Michael Haneke.
She gave the reply to Daniel Day-Lewis, Ralph Fiennes, Jeremy Irons, Catherine Deneuve, Johnny Depp or Samuel L. Jackson.
Juliette Binoche joins the list of actors honored by the San Sebastian festival such as Gregory Peck (1986), Bette Davis (1989), Lauren Bacall (1992), or even Catherine Deneuve (1995), Isabelle Huppert (2003 ) and last year Marion Cotillard.
