A video has gone viral on social networks, those of French actresses and artists who support Iranian women following the death of Mahsa Amini.
In this video published by the Instagram account “Soutien femmes Iran”, we see Marion Cotillard, Isabelle Adjani, Angèle, Pomme, Alexandra Lamy, Isabelle Huppert, Laure Camaly, Jane Birkin, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Julie Gayet, Mélanie Laurent, Juliette Binoche. In the background, the resumption of Italian singing Bella Ciao by the Iranian singer Gandom, which has become the anthem of protest.
At the initiative of this video, three lawyers: the president of Paris Julie Couturier, the former president of the National Bar Council, Christiane Feral Schuhl and Richard Sédillot, specialized in the defense of human rights.
The text that accompanies the video claims that it is “impossible not to denounce again and again this terrible repression (…). The arrests only increase the number of prisoners who are already illegally detained and too often tortured. We have therefore decided to respond to the call which was thrown at us by cutting, we too, some of these locks”.
Mahsa Amini, the 22-year-old young woman, was arrested and mistreated on September 13 by the morality police. She was accused of having worn the veil inappropriately and of having let strands of hair show. Since Mahsa’s death on September 16, the Iranian people, women in the lead, have been demonstrating at the risk of their lives for access to the most essential freedoms.
