The Stade Rennais coach, Bruno Génésio, will be replaced by Julien Stéphan, the Sports Department of Radio France learned on Saturday November 18, 2023, from a source close to the coach’s entourage, confirming information from RMC . Bruno Génésio, 56, had been in office for two seasons. Julien Stéphan, son of the current assistant coach of the Blues, Guy Stéphan, already managed Stade Rennais between 2019 and 2021, before being replaced by Bruno Génésio.

Julien Stephan commits for six months

He notably won the Coupe de France in 2019, against Paris Saint-Germain. According to France Bleu Armorique, it was Bruno Génésio himself who asked to stop his mission, although he was under contract until June 2025. Julien Stephan will commit for six months, until June 2024 and he will aim to revive Rennes, only 13th in Ligue 1, with two victories after 12 days. Contacted by the Sports Directorate, Rennes declined to comment.
