In just a few days, Julien Doré will release his sixth album, a covers project titled Imposteur, which harkens back to his rise to fame when he performed hits by his idols on the television show Nouvelle Star. The 42-year-old from Gard won the fifth season in 2007, shortly after, he introduced his rendition of Alizée’s Moi… Lolita—written by Mylène Farmer—which became a hit on the charts. For his upcoming album, set to drop on November 8, Julien Doré has chosen to reinterpret another iconic song by the artist known for Désenchantée: Pourvu qu’elles soient douces, which is the first single sent to radio stations.

Another track on the album is Toutes les femmes de ta vie, originally by the L5 group, which emerged from another reality show on M6: Popstars. In total, Imposteur features 17 covers from various eras and genres, including Les yeux de la mama by Kendji Girac, which includes a recording of his mother’s voice found in his archives, Femme Like U by K-Maro, Couleur menthe à l’eau by Eddy Mitchell, and Paroles, Paroles featuring Alain Delon and Dalida, with a notable American actress participating in the studio rendition.

Julien Doré Refuses to be Called an Impostor

Regarding this album, Julien Doré sees it as a sign of a new chapter for him, representing complete artistic freedom. ‘I simply want to create things that bring me joy, provoke thoughts, touch me emotionally, make me smile, and sometimes include a message or a double meaning with a wink to the times we live in’, he explains earnestly, responding to critics who claim he took the easy route due to a lack of inspiration, asserting that he’s entirely ‘legitimate’ in pursuing this kind of project given his background.

Moreover, for him, Imposteur represents ‘almost two years of work’, involving ‘careful attention to arrangements’ and ‘vocals’. ‘It’s a process that has taken even longer than my original albums. As for inspiration, it’s my profession, so I definitely know how to tap into it’, he emphasizes. Additionally, he regularly engages with his many fans on social media, often with humor, making this interaction a hallmark of his communication style that generates buzz. His latest post on X (formerly Twitter) from November 1—a day for reflection—once again entertained his community.

Is Julien Doré Ready to Step Back?

Indeed, after unveiling a third single from his new album—a cover of the children’s song Ah les crocodiles—the father of a 3-year-old boy responded to an amusing request from a fan: ‘When will you cover the theme from Pat’Patrouille?‘ referring to the beloved animated series currently airing on TF1. ‘Just had to ask’, Julien Doré replied good-naturedly. He proceeded to create his version of the theme, sharing it on social media and once again igniting excitement among his audience. Comments ranged from ‘I love it’, ‘So cool’, to ‘With that voice, everything sounds perfect’. Some fans jokingly questioned whether he might consider recording other cartoon themes, like SpongeBob SquarePants or Dora the Explorer.

And why not take the stage? The singer will soon embark on a major tour, performing in prestigious venues starting from March 1, 2025. Announced dates for cities such as Nantes (March 8), Lyon (March 14), and Lille (March 28) are already sold out.
