Many music professionals must have been disillusioned in front of the television. Prime Minister Jean Castex announced the return on Monday of the gauges, set at 2,000 people maximum indoors and 5,000 outdoors. And standing concerts will simply be banned. But this new framework, on the other hand, will not concern political meetings. Jean Castex, in fact, considered that “Political and electoral activities are subject to specific provisions in our constitutional law which provide them (…) even stronger protection”.
Clearly, the rules applied to concerts and major events, in order to fight against the rapid spread of the Omicron variant, will not apply to events organized by candidates for the Elysee Palace. Several artists greeted the news with disappointment and irony, starting with singer Julien Doré. The latter posted a poster of his tour on Instagram, replacing the mention “in concert” by another “in meeting”.
On tour for his second album, the artist Eddy de Pretto suddenly discovered the desires of Elysee, by announcing on Twitter, with second degree, his candidacy for the presidency of the Republic. “I organize meetings here”, he added, also publishing the poster showing the dates of his concerts. Same presidential dreams for singer-songwriter Hoshi, who posted a montage showing her face in Emmanuel Macron’s costume with the mention: “It’s okay I can do my concerts”.

Beyond these lines of humor, professionals in the musical world have expressed real concerns about the near future. “We are once again becoming a forbidden sector, it is despair again”, lamented to AFP Malika Seguineau, Prodiss (national union of musical and variety shows). “I exchanged with producers concerned by tours: they will be canceled because there is no longer any availability for the year 2022 between all the dates postponed and the new shows”.
