Saturday May 28, 2022, Julien Courbet launches the second edition of his new magazine “Arnaques” in prime time on M6. A magazine supposed to give advice on scams of all kinds. Guest of “Buzz TV”, the host talks behind the scenes of the filming of this second issue. “We try to find anonymous people who, of course, were taken in, but who now have the necessary perspective to be able to talk about it. In the morning, in “It can happen to you” on RTL, I observe a wave of bank scams. Every day, I could welcome on the air listeners from the four corners of France, who report a hacking of their account. Thanks to the magazine “Scams! “, we will understand what is happening by finding the crooks. And above all, we did a whole survey on used cars. We met a seller who did not deliver the vehicles. I have shivers down my spine…“, says the one who made this kind of program popular on TF1 in the 90s.
And Julien Courbet explains that this meeting caused a real trauma for him and his teams. “He received us with a gun. He hit the cameraman with his fists. Then he pulls out his gun and says, “I’m going to smoke you.” We were forced to run away. We were scared and I can assure you that we did not show enormous courage. The cameraman, fortunately, is fine and he filed a complaint. When we call the police, we realize that they know him well…“, says the facilitator.
And this is not the first time that Julien Courbet has felt the anguish linked to his job. “I was scared once in my life. When I was on TF1, I proposed to the then boss Étienne Mougeotte to do a bonus on sects. Eight days before the show, we discover the Vercors massacre, with this collective suicide. When the trailers were shown, I received phone calls at home… A voice, breathing heavily, said to me: “Enjoy your night again, it may be your last. Later, someone in a car was waiting for me and watching me. Otherwise, I have never received any threats.“, he explains.
