Juliano has an intellectual disability deemed moderate to severe. He does not speak and suffers from serious behavioral problems. Against the wall, his mother decided to place him in accommodation. “We had no support, no respite, no help, at least not adapted. He was made violent against us. We had no other resource, no one to turn to. It was made that we were afraid of it, ”says Isabelle Plamondon.
“We have been put on the waiting list. It took about two months despite the urgency of the situation. The police came to our house twice a week,” she recalls.
After two successive placements in family-type resources, Juliano was hospitalized due to episodes of aggression.
“He did not attack people, but threw the coffee table and a chair into his resource. The owner called the police. We couldn’t take it back, ”recalls Mme Plamondon.
A place in a residence in continuous assistance (RAC) in Lanaudière is finally awarded to Juliano.
sleep on the ground
“It was another horror episode! It was the ground floor of a CHSLD. Nothing had been done on the premises. There were holes in the walls, it was dirty, not suitable, with hospital beds,” recalls Mme Plamondon, who documented the situation by taking numerous photos of the scene.
“They removed his hospital bed because it was dangerous for someone violent. They decided that everyone would sleep on the floor, on a very thin mattress. It didn’t make any sense. They locked Juliano in his room, ”says Mr.me Plamondon while pointing out the inexperience of the young people involved in the new RAC and the staff turnover in general.
In December 2021, she decides to bring her son home.
“I was too discouraged. It is sure that it will be necessary to place it. A few weeks ago, he attacked us at Walmart. How long will we be able to take care of him? But who will want it? He is going to go to a CHSLD, overmedicated in his bed? He is pleasant, laughing. But when the wires touch, you don’t know what he’s going to do. My son needs experienced professionals,” said Ms.me Plamondon.
