Two days after the queen stage marked by the demonstration of Tadej Pogacar (UAE Emirates), the peloton remains in the high Italian mountains, Tuesday May 21, for the 16th stage of this Tour of Italy. But the weather conditions, including snow, disrupted the organization of today’s stage. “I don’t understand the situation, the weather is terribletestified the pink jersey, Tadej Pogacar, at the microphone of Eurosport before the race. It’s very dangerous to go downhill, I think it would be better to shorten the stage.” The route had to pass through the Giogo di Santa Maria summit, perched at an altitude of 2,498 meters.
After a long moment of uncertainty, the organizers first decided to change the route of the race. The runners had to take the fictitious start in Livigno at 11:55 a.m., as planned, and then reach Prato by car, around kilometer 70, for a real start around 1:58 p.m. But the peloton will finally join Lasa for a fictitious start to the stage around 2:25 p.m. There will remain 118 km of racing before the ascent of Monte Pana, and the arrival at Santa Cristina Valgardena.
