This is a ranking expected by Spotify users at the end of the year: their annual summary of the music, artists and podcasts they listened to in the past year. And it is also an opportunity for the platform to publish the 2023 rankings of listening by artists, by titles and by genres. So who won the battle for our ears? We’ll recap it all for you.

We take the same and start again

Last year, Jul, Ninho and Gazo took the first three places in the ranking. This year again, the Marseillais wins the Palme d’Or, followed by the two other rappers. Spotify does not provide an official stream count for the full year, but on the platform, we can read that Jul has 6.95 million monthly streams, compared to 6.4 for Ninho and 8.5 for Gazo.

Two other rappers complete the podium of the most streamed artists on Spotify in France: Tiakola first, triple titled during the ceremony of Flames, and which is a jump compared to last year. The Bondynois went from 8th to 4th place. Damso takes 5th place.

Aya terrace Taylor Swift

Among female artists, the phenomenal Aya Nakamura overtakes world star Taylor Swift. La Française, double platinum disc for her album Ayathus becomes the most popular female artist in France.

In addition to Taylor Swift, who has continued to break record after record this year, Aya Nakamura also overtakes three other artists with global careers: Rihanna, Lana del Rey and Billie Eillish.

“German racing car” by SDM and “Mélo” by Tiakola crowned most streamed titles and albums

Not content with having carved out a place in the top 5 of the most streamed male artists on Spotify, the young Tiakola also won the title of most listened to album in France, with Meloalthough released in May 2022, is now triple platinum.

As for the most streamed titles, it is therefore German racing car by French rapper SDM who wins the game, listened to 101.7 million times according to the Spotify website. Next Meuda of Tiakola and flowers by Miley Cyrus.

For Valentine’s Day… long live the singles!

And speaking of Miley Cyrus, flowers was widely acclaimed by French listeners on February 14. “The French celebrated celibacy”, the platform jokes in its press release. Released on January 12, 2023, the title has today accumulated 1.6 billion streams worldwide on the Spotify platform. In France, this song was the most listened to on Spotify for 47 days this year.

Guetta and Offenbach are exported, Vegedream and Indila make French shine

The top 10 French artists most listened to abroad differs a little from the French top 5. It is especially the French DJs who are a hit in the rest of the world. Thus, David Guetta, DJ Snake and the now separated duo Daft Punk form the podium of French musical export. Jul comes in 5th place in this ranking, in which we also find Manu Chao (6th), Kungs (8th) and Offenbach (10th).

If we look at the titles of French artists who sing in French, the Blues are still world champions. Take the cup home by rapper Vegedream lifts the trophy, followed by two titles by singer Indila, who places two of her hits in the top 3: Spinning in the void And Last Dance.

Louise Attaque, Gala and Manu Chao can say thank you to the nostalgic

Latest ranking shared by the music streaming platform: the most listened to titles released more than 20 years ago. Very clearly, this more or less resembles the playlist of an evening: Louise Attaque, Gala, a-ha, Céline Dion or Eminem are shared in the top 10, which is here.

  1. I bring you with wind by Louise Attaque
  2. Freed from Desire of Gala
  3. Me Gustas Tu by Manu Chao
  4. Take on Me from a-ha
  5. Gangsta’s Paradise by Coolio
  6. Every Breath You Take by The Police
  7. Ain’t No Mountain High Enough by Marvin Gaye
  8. Without Me by Eminem
  9. I’ll go wherever you will go (with Jean-Jacques Goldman) by Céline Dion
  10. I’m Still Standing by Elton John

No trace in these rankings, however, of Michel Sardou or Juliette Armanet.
