Judi Dench, Emma Thompson, Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Edward Enninful among guests at the coronation of King Charles III

The British monarchy has invited artists, some of whom have found fans in Westminster Abbey.

Several stars, including American singers Katy Perry and Lionel Richie who will perform on Sunday May 7 at the coronation concert of King Charles III, were invited to the ceremony which took place at Westminster Abbey in London.

King Charles III and Queen Camilla were crowned on Saturday May 6 in a Christian ceremony full of pomp and solemnity, eight months after the death of Elizabeth II. At 74, Charles III became King of the United Kingdom and 14 Commonwealth countries, from Canada to Australia to Jamaica, in September on the death of his mother Elizabeth II, aged 96. .

More than 2,000 guests

In attendance were 2,300 guests, foreign dignitaries such as French President Emmanuel Macron or the wife of US President Jill Biden, representatives of the nobility, political leaders and representatives of civil society.

British comedians Judi Dench and Emma Thompson, who were knighted, were also on the guest list, along with Australian artist Nick Cave. Just like Edward Enninful, the editor-in-chief of British Vogue, who entered alongside American singer Katy Perry. On his instagram account, he said to himself “honored” to attend such an event, which he would never have “conceived” leaving his native Ghana for the UK.

Katy Perry, she used social networks to reassure her fans who have her seen looking for her seat at the start of the ceremony.

Inside the abbey, the American singer also found other fans with whom she posed, like actress Emma Thompson. At the end of the ceremony, the American singer had to face another small annoyance: she stumbled when leaving the place without, it seems, hurting herself.
