A judge in Puerto Rico has signed a restraining order against singer Ricky Martin, law enforcement officials said Saturday.
The injunction was signed on Friday and law enforcement drove to an affluent neighborhood in the coastal town of Dorado, where the artist resides, to deliver a copy of the order to him, The Associated reported. Press police spokesman Axel Valencia.
“So far, the police have not been able to locate him,” admitted Mr. Valencia.
Ricky Martin’s spokesperson did not respond to AP requests for comment.
The identity of the person who requested the restraining order was not specified. Axel Valencia explained that he could not provide further details about the case due to Puerto Rico’s domestic violence law.
El Vocero, a Puerto Rican newspaper, revealed that the order specified that Mr Martin and the plaintiff had been dating for seven months. According to the article, they would have broken up for two months, but according to the complainant, Mr. Martin would not have accepted the separation and would have been seen prowling around his residence on at least three occasions.
“The plaintiff fears for his safety”, can we read in the legal request according to the media El Vocero.
The Associated Press was unable to obtain a copy of the order.
According to Axel Valencia, the order prohibits Ricky Martin from communicating with the complainant and that a judge will determine at an upcoming hearing whether the order should be maintained or withdrawn. According to the police spokesperson, these orders normally last for at least one month.
The plaintiff allegedly did not contact the police before filing a motion for a court order, Valencia said. Had he done so, a prosecutor would have had to determine if there was enough evidence to file charges.
