JR Prevent fights real fires with virtual tools

Use virtual reality to learn how to face danger in the most “realistic” way possible, but without the need for huge spaces or real exercises. This is the credo of the Isère company JR Prevent, based in Voiron. A young company, created in 2020, but which already has a hundred customers and five employees. Meeting with its boss and founder Jérôme Robert.

Jérôme Robert, JR Prevent does fire prevention in companies in an original way, explain to us?

Absolutely. In fact, we are a company specializing in the prevention of professional risks of security risk. And as such, we have a training department for mandatory training. And as part of our mandatory training, we do offer virtual reality fire training.

How’s it going ? Are people a bit like in a video game?

Exactly. It is a Lyon company, Windev, which developed the application. These are scenarios taken from video game producers and we can really put people in a real simulation, because of their job, whether it is warehouses, shops, hospitals or nursing homes. They will reproduce a fire extinguishing action through connected physical extinguishers, as part of a simulation through a virtual reality helmet. And besides, sometimes it allows us to actually see the person’s reaction, the rise in stress, the loss of capacity, since it really allows you to put the person in a stressful situation. The person is really in the situation.

What’s the point of doing that and not doing it life-size?

You have a carbon impact which is neutral knowing that a CO2 extinguisher is two kilos! So if you have about fifteen trainees going over a CO2 extinguisher, that’s going to be fifteen times two, that’s going to be 30 kilos of CO2 emitted into the atmosphere. While we actually it’s going to be zero. And it’s a real time saver because in reality, it takes between one and two hours for the theoretical part and then throughout the day, the trainees can come to the workshop as they go along. This also makes it possible to be in contact with risk prevention and the regulatory nature which, I remind you, is mandatory and that is still just as important to underline it. In Isère, for the moment, we are the only ones to offer this solution. We have a fleet of fully electric vehicles. So for us, the idea is that when we travel, we have a negative carbon impact and therefore when we offer services of this type, it was necessarily an obligation for us to be in this direction. the. So that’s why we’re proposing this solution.
