This winter, he took a significant step in his career by signing his first professional contract with SV Ried. Although he recently missed a few games due to illness, his focus remains unwavering.
From Local Talent to Professional Player
In a recent interview, Nussbaumer shared insights about his football journey and aspirations with SV Ried. His career began at his hometown club in Mondsee, where he honed his skills by training alongside older players. Despite receiving an offer from the prestigious Red Bull Academy, he chose to stay in Mondsee, where he felt right at home.
At the age of 16, he made his debut for Mondsee’s second team in the 2nd class, contributing significantly to the team’s promotion with 18 goals that season. However, his progress faced a hurdle when he suffered a serious injury to his inner ligament and meniscus. Despite this setback, Nussbaumer focused on rehabilitation, ultimately emerging stronger and more dedicated to his sport.
His transition to the OÖ-Liga team was seamless, as he had already trained with the first team. He expressed frustration at not scoring during his early appearances but turned that energy into a record-breaking season in 2023/24, where he tallied 23 goals. A standout moment for him was scoring a hat-trick in a derby match against Bad Ischl, which highlighted his ambition and drive.
Simon has made football his top priority, even completing vocational training as an office clerk and graduating from high school, fulfilling his parents’ wishes before fully immersing himself in the sport. His connection to SV Ried began without an agent, but he now works with one who also has ties to Union Mondsee.
Living with two teammates in a shared apartment in Ried, Nussbaumer frequently returns to Mondsee. As he adjusts to the increased training intensity, which has risen from three sessions a week to six or seven, he is focused on establishing himself with the Young Vikings and eventually making the leap to the professional team.
