Journalists kept at a distance from the migration crisis, meeting with the youngest mayor of France

It is difficult to follow this crisis which has taken hold on the border of Europe. The speeches and the images do not say the same thing, the appeasement of one day is belied by the tensions of the next day and each one seems to be playing a score that goes far beyond the fate of migrants.

Yesterday, a diplomatic solution seemed in sight: Emmanuel Macron and Vladimir Poutin called together for de-escalation, and Alexander Lukashenko claimed to want to avoid any “confrontation”. But today on the ground, the situation has again become tense. The Polish authorities accuse the migrants of throwing stones at his police officers, injuring one of them, and the police in turn fired tear gas.

A migratory showdown difficult to cover for the journalists who are there, because Poland refuses to let them access the border. This is what Marie-Pierre Vérot tells us, franceinfo special correspondent in Poland with Alexandre Abergèle.

Who will become the next president of the association of mayors of France? The battle rages on for this coveted position. Two candidates compete to replace François Baroin, the outgoing president: Philippe Laurent, UDI mayor of Sceaux and David Lisnard, UDI mayor of Cannes.

The next representative of mayors will be a man, which is hardly surprising since 8 out of 10 mayors today are men. Quarter of an hour went through the data of the national repertoire of elected officials and here is the robot portrait of the mayor of France: his name is Michel, he is 60 years old and he is a retired former executive.

The youngest are an exception: of the 34,897 mayors in France, only 21 are under 25 years old. Théo Uhart therefore went to meet the youngest mayor of France, Hugo Biolley. At 20, he was the mayor of Vinzieux, a village of 500 inhabitants in the north of the Ardèche. And he hopes his example will show that young people can have their place in politics.
