Thursday, July 6, it has been six months since journalist Mortaza Behboudi was held prisoner in Afghanistan. The Taliban spokesman reassured about his fate.

On the walls of a Parisian town hall is displayed the photo of Mortaza Behboudi, 29, detained for six months: 180 days, 18 hours and 45 minutes, indicates the counter. His wife is moved: “He is relatively well treated compared to the other prisoners”, says Aleksandra Mostovaja. Danish, she married Mortaza Behboudi in Afghanistan in 2021, during a traditional ceremony, before the return to power of the Taliban.

Since then, the man has worked with several teams of France Télévisions as a journalist interpreter. On the day of his arrest, he was still on assignment in Kabul (Afghanistan). According to the Taliban spokesperson, the journalist is not in prison because of his work. “He was arrested because of his direct relations with opponents of the regime. I can tell you that he is fine and that the investigation is continuing”, explains Zabihullah Mujahid, spokesperson for the Taliban. According to him, Mortaza Behboudi only risks a few months in prison. “Nothing bad is going to happen to him”he assures.
