Journalist Charles Adler and hospital director Tracy Muggli appointed to Senate

(Ottawa) Radio veteran Charles Adler and Saskatchewan hospital CEO Tracy Muggli are joining the ranks of Canada’s independent senators.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced the appointments on Saturday.

Mr. Adler came to Canada from Hungary as a refugee at a young age. He spent more than 50 years as a radio host and journalist, according to the statement from the Prime Minister’s Office.

The statement noted that Mr. Adler, who will represent Manitoba, has used “his platforms to defend human rights and Canadian democracy” during his long career.

Mme Muggli is described as a registered social worker, a former provincial civil servant in health and social services and the current CEO of St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon.

The two new senators were appointed by Governor General Mary Simon after being recommended by the Independent Advisory Board for Senate Appointments, which was created in 2016.
