Josh Anderson scores as Canada defeats Italy 6-1 at World Hockey

Montreal Canadiens forward Josh Anderson had a goal and an assist in Canada’s 6-1 win over Italy in the preliminary round of the World Hockey Championship on Sunday in Helsinki, Finland.

“We all do our best, and we help the team create scoring chances. We take great pride in the fact that the team can count on us in the defensive zone. There’s confidence in our line right now, and we’re going to keep getting better,” Anderson said of the line he completes with Cole Sillinger and Adam Lowry.

Dysin Mayo of the Arizona Coyotes also stood out for the Canadiens with a goal and an assist. Travis Sanheim, Nicolas Roy, Kent Johnson and Noah Gregor Beaumont completed the scoring for the team led by head coach Claude Julien.

“I think it was a good game today. Our start was a bit slow, but we found our rhythm in the second and third periods,” said the former Canadiens coach.

Phil Pietroniro was the only one to fight back from the Italian side.

Seattle Kraken goaltender Chris Driedger picked up the win after making 11 saves. His vis-à-vis, Justin Fazio, stopped 24 of 30 shots aimed at him.

The Canadians, who play in Group A, thus signed a second victory in as many games since the start of the tournament, after beating Germany 5-3 on Friday.

The Maple Leaf representatives will play their next match tomorrow against Slovakia.

In other matches in Group A, France defeated Kazakhstan 2-1 while Switzerland shut out Denmark 6-0.

In Group B, Norway beat Great Britain 4-3 in a penalty shootout, USA beat Austria 3-2 in overtime, while Sweden got the better of the Czech Republic by a score of 5-3.
