Hungarian chef Adam Fischer (Ivan’s brother) delivers here on the 3rde volume of a new recording of the London Symphoniesthe final CD (Symphonies No. 102-104) appearing on October 11. This is the third time that Adam Fischer has looked at Haydn after his complete Nimbus, taken up by Brillant, and isolated releases 20 years ago by MDG. Over time, his interpretation increasingly consists of applying to a shrunken orchestra, on modern instruments, the language and playing of the Baroque. This is what we perceive, the will seems more subtle: “To obtain a greater variation in expression, we deliberately use different bowing techniques,” says the conductor. Yes, but without vibrato, the whole thing is part of a tiny and dry atmosphere. It is therefore a rather mannered Haydn, where a lot of things happen, including on the volumes in the minuets, but where amiability gives way to demonstration. In this little game, Giovanni Antonini in his Haydn 2032 series from Alpha is more exciting and endearing.
