Jordan Montgomery signs one-year contract with the Diamondbacks

(Phoenix) The Arizona Diamondbacks have agreed to a one-year, $25 million contract with left-hander Jordan Montgomery, according to a source with knowledge of the signing.

The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Tuesday because the deal is subject to successful physical examinations. The contract includes an option year for 2025 and it could be guaranteed if Montgomery makes 10 starts this season.

This addition solidifies the starting rotation of the National champions, only a few days before the start of the season. Montgomery should slot in as the third or fourth pitcher in the rotation, along with Zac Gallen, Merrill Kelly and Eduardo Rodriguez.

Montgomery, who will celebrate his 31ste birthday in December, entered the free agent market as a World Series champion for the first time in his career. The six-foot-six left-hander played a significant role in the Rangers’ first World Series title after being acquired at the trade deadline.

Montgomery has a 38-34 record and a 3.68 ERA in 141 career games in the majors, with the New York Yankees, St. Louis Cardinals and Rangers.

After going 4-2 with a 2.79 ERA in 11 starts with the Rangers down the stretch of the season, Montgomery went 3-1 with a 2.79 ERA in 11 starts with the Rangers. 2.90 in six playoff games.
