Joni Mitchell Celebrated at MusiCares’ Person of the Year Gala

Beck, St. Vincent, Leon Bridges and Herbie Hancock will be among the many artists who will pay tribute to Canadian singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell on 1er next April, at the MusiCares’Person of the Year gala, organized on the sidelines of Grammy Awards week.

The evening, which returns in 2022 after being canceled last year due to COVID, celebrates the creative accomplishments and philanthropic work of impactful artists, while raising funds for musicians in need.

Other artists performing at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas include Jon Batiste, Brandi Carlile, Lauren Daigle, Chaka Khan, Angélique Kidjo, Cyndi Lauper, Pentatonix, Billy Porter, Stephen Stills, Black Pumas and Allison Russell.

“We are delighted to be able to bring together such a group of artists to celebrate the career of Joni Mitchell,” said Laura Segura, executive director of MusiCares, in a press release. She is not only honored for her iconic music and lyrics, but also for her visionary spirit and the inspiration she has communicated to so many singer-songwriters. »

It was last August that the 78-year-old Alberta musician learned that she was going to receive the title of personality of the year at the MusiCares gala, she who had also been honored in December at the famous 44and Kennedy Center Honors, in Washington DC.
