A little as if everyone had already given up on Jonas Kaufmann (cure of realism…), we see the “first recitals” of tenors raining down. After the radiant Pene Pati (Warner) and the slightly overrated Freddie de Tommaso (Decca), whose technique is still to be perfected, here is a serious candidate: the American-Chilean Jonathan Tetelman, who waited for his vocal maturation by earning a living as a DJ in a Manhattan club. The vocal rough diamond is sparkling, even more impressive than De Tommaso, less baritone. We largely overlap the repertoire of Benjamin Bernheim (DG), but with less elegance (Wether : “Why wake me up”) and a more voluntarily athletic song. French is also more rudimentary. The future of Tetelman, obviously in Verdi, where everyone will want him, will raise the eternal questions: will he continue to work (covered passages in Carmen show the margin) or will he live royally for 5 to 10 years on his extraordinary natural talent?
