Jonathan Quick is traded to the Columbus Blue Jackets

(Los Angeles) It’s the end of an era in California. The Los Angeles Kings traded goalie Jonathan Quick to the Columbus Blue Jackets on Wednesday morning.


The Kings also offered their conditional first-round pick in the 2023 draft, as well as their conditional third-round pick in the 2024 draft, to the Blue Jackets. In return, the Ohio side traded goaltender Joonas Korpisalo and defender Vladislav Gavrikov.

Quick, 37, was 370-275-82 with a 2.46 goals-against average and 91.1% save percentage in 743 career games with the Kings. He started his career with the Californian team during the 2007-08 campaign.

The American is 11-13-4 with a 3.50 GAA, 87.6% save percentage and one shutout in 31 outings so far this season.

Quick notably contributed to the Kings’ Stanley Cup victories in 2012 and 2014, winning the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP in 2012.

“Jonathan Quick is a two-time Stanley Cup champion who has been an outstanding goaltender in our league for a long time and this deal allows us to replenish some draft picks that will serve our future as an organization,” Blue Jackets general manager Jarmo Kekalainen said in a statement.

Korpisalo was 11-11-3 with a 3.17 GAA and 91.3% save percentage in 28 appearances in goal for the Blue Jackets this season.

In career, the 28-year-old Finn went 7-78-24 with a 3.06 GAA, 90.3% save percentage and three shutouts in 210 career games with the club. ‘Ohio. Korpisalo was a third-round pick, 62e in total, of the Blue Jackets at the 2012 NHL auction.

Finally, Gavrikov has three goals and seven assists in 52 games this season with the Blue Jackets. The 27-year-old Russian defender was a sixth-round pick, 159e in total, of the Blue Jackets in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft.

The Kings will play their next game Thursday night against the Montreal Canadiens. As for the Blue Jackets, they will face the Seattle Kraken on Friday.
