Things are going from bad to worse for Jonathan Huberdeau, who did not play a single second during the third period of the game between the Calgary Flames and the Nashville Predators on Tuesday night.
The Quebec forward was kept on the bench by head coach Ryan Huska for the last 20 minutes of a game that the Flames won 4 to 2. Huberdeau’s face was very long during this engagement which must have seemed an eternity.
Before being punished, the 30-year-old veteran had not taken a shot and had not made a single check in 14:24. This is the first time he has been stuck on the bench since January 8, 2019, when he wore the Florida Panthers uniform.
After seeing his offensive production drop from 115 to 55 points last season, the Saint-Jérôme native expected to bounce back in 2023-2024. However, the Flames are experiencing difficulties again and Huberdeau has only amassed six points in 12 games, in addition to maintaining a differential of -12, the worst on his team.
Calgary scored four unanswered goals to sign its fourth victory of the season. Dillon Dube, Noah Hanifin, Blake Coleman and Nazem Kadri were the scorers.
