Second passage for the XV of France before the disciplinary committee, and second heavy sanction. After the four-week suspension of Paul Willemse at the start of the tournament, it is now without Jonathan Danty that the Blues will have to deal with. The center of La Rochelle, excluded on Sunday against Italy, was suspended for five weeks, announced the disciplinary committee of the Six Nations Tournament on Tuesday February 27.

Sanctioned with a yellow card after a high tackle on Italian center Ignacio Brex, Jonathan Danty saw his card turn red after analysis of the bunker, leaving his teammates outnumbered for the second half. “On this basis and applying World Rugby’s mandatory sanction provisions, the Disciplinary Committee concluded that the incident warranted an entry point of six weeks of suspension.“, said the disciplinary committee.

A suspension made heavier by the player’s record

If Jonathan Danty received his first card with the XV of France, he is however accustomed to doing so with his club La Rochelle, he who was notably sent off during the match against Stade Français on December 23. This history weighed against him at the time of the committee’s decision, which states that “mitigating circumstances (apologies from the player, admission of guilt and good behavior at the hearing) were applied, reducing the starting sanction by two weeks. However, an additional week was added for aggravating circumstances (the player’s disciplinary record), resulting in a final suspension of five weeks. The center will miss the last two matches of the Tournament, against Wales on March 10 and England on March 16.
