“It was a nasty fall, but luckily he is conscious and in a stable condition.”. Evacuated on a stretcher after falling in a descent of the 4th stage of the Tour of the Basque Country, Thursday April 4, Jonas Vingegaard will spend the night in hospital by “precaution”, indicated his Visma-Lease a Bike team. The winner of the last two Tours de France suffers from “clavicle fracture” and of “several broken ribs”.

The duration of his unavailability is obviously not yet known, but the diagnosis closely resembles that of his teammate Wout van Aert. Also falling at high speed, a week earlier on A Travers la Flandre, the Belgian has already withdrawn from Paris-Roubaix (Sunday) and Liège-Bastogne-Liège (April 14). His participation in the Giro is still uncertain (from May 4 to 26). So, you will have to be patient to find out if Jonas Vingegaard will be present at the start of the Tour de France (from June 29 to July 21).

Having fallen at the same time as him, but able to get up, Remco Evenepoel was also transported to hospital. He suffers from “fractures to the scapula and clavicle” and will undergo an operation, said the Soudal Quick-Step team. The other headliner of this Tour of the Basque Country, the Slovenian Primoz Roglic, also abandoned because of the same fall but no indication was given on his physical condition.
