There is no longer any doubt. While he has not run a single race since his heavy fall last April at the Tour of the Basque Country, Jonas Vingegaard, double Danish winner of the Tour de France (2022 and 2023), will indeed be lined up for the Tour of France 2024 which will start from Florence on Saturday June 29. It was his team, Visma-Lease a bike, which announced it on Thursday June 20 on social networks. The Belgian Wout van Aert, also the victim of a serious accident in the fall, will also be there.

On April 4, the 27-year-old Danish runner was caught in an impressive fall, causing him pneumothorax, pulmonary contusion and fracture of the left clavicle. Having undergone successful collarbone surgery, Vingegaard spent more than ten days in hospital. He was able to resume training at the beginning of last May, only a month after the operation.

“I’m excited to start the Tour, he confided in a press release from the Dutch team. The last few months have not always been easy, but I thank my family and my team for their unconditional support. We’ve been working together for this moment and I’m obviously excited to see where I’m at. I feel good and very motivated.”

He will race alongside Wout van Aert, the victim of a big fall at the end of March which prevented him from racing the Giro. “It wasn’t the original plan, obviously, but given my progress in recent weeks, I really wanted to do the Tour, and the team accepted it, explains the winner of nine stages on the Tour de France. Our main goal is to fight for the top of the general ranking with Jonas, and I want to contribute to this with an excellent team.”

Sepp Kuss, winner of the 2023 Vuelta, but also Matteo Jorgenson, winner of Paris-Nice 2024, and the Frenchman Christophe Laporte, in particular, will accompany them to try to keep the yellow jersey in the Dutch team.
