(New York) Comedian Jon Stewart goes back in time by returning to Daily Show as a weekly host and executive producer throughout the 2024 U.S. election cycle.
Comedy Central announced Wednesday that Stewart will host the current affairs TV show he led for 16 years starting in 1999, every Monday starting February 12. Hosts familiar with the show will then take turns for the rest of the week.
“Jon Stewart is the voice of our generation, and we are honored to have him return to the show The Daily Show from Comedy Central to help us all understand the madness and divisions rocking the country as we enter election season,” said Chairman and CEO of Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios.
“In this age of staggering hypocrisy and performative politics, Jon is the perfect person to cut through the empty rhetoric and bring much-needed clarity with his brilliant mind. »
Over the years, The Daily Show — hosted first by Craig Kilborn, then Stewart and Trevor Noah — skewered the left and the right by making the media a character and delivering it absolutely straight, no matter how ridiculous it was. The show, which won an Emmy award this month for best talk show series, has not had a permanent host since Noah left last year.
The show’s long-term legacy as a talent incubator is remarkable, becoming a launching pad for artists like Aasif Mandvi, John Oliver, Larry Wilmore, Jordan Klepper and Samantha Bee. Stewart received the Kennedy Center’s Mark Twain Prize for American Humor in 2022.
Recently, The Problem With Jon Stewart by Stewart, which debuted in 2021, has been canceled on the video-on-demand service Apple TV+.
