With 11 nominations, the 35-year-old African-American pianist, also R&B artist, is well ahead of the 27-year-old Canadian pop megastar and her eight nominations. Doja Cat and HER also collect eight, Billie Eilish seven. Olivia Rodrigo, an 18-year-old American singer and actress, also has seven nominations.

The winners will be announced on January 31, 2022 in Los Angeles during the 64th Grammy Awards broadcast on CBS, one of the five major national television networks in the United States, and of course also on the internet.

For Harvey Mason Jr., president of the Academy of the Music Industry of the United States (Recording Academy), quoted in a press release, “these appointments reflect the beauty of today’s musical landscape, varied and diverse.”

To respond to recurring criticism of the lack of diversity in nominations, the professionals added two prestigious categories to the eight of the previous years.
