In the same publication, a photo of Joaquin Phoenix, who reads the script, confirms that the actor will return to the shoes of the villainous character. Phoenix had also won the Oscar for best actor in the first film.

Released in 2019, Joker grossed over $1 billion at the box office. The film tells the story of Arthur Fleck, a young adult with mental illness who becomes radicalized after suffering a series of rejections. The exclusion leads him to turn into a violent killer. Fleck turns the streets of Gotham upside down and challenges the Batman universe.

The theme “madness for two” relates to a psychotic disorder where two individuals share a common delirium.
