Back behind the camera for the first time in 25 years, Johnny Depp is preparing to make a film about the painter and sculptor Amadeo Modigliani, in co-production with Al Pacino.

According The Inrocksthe screenplay will be adapted from a play by Dennis McIntyre, the film taking place in Paris in 1916. The action will focus on 48 hours which marked the artistic reputation of the Italian painter and sculptor.
No release date is planned for the moment, but the project is supported not only by Pacino – with whom Johnny Depp had collaborated in 1997 on the film Donnie Brasco – but also by Barry Navidi as well as the production company created by Depp, Infinitum Nihil.
Johnny Depp had directed The Brave in 1997, film presented at the Cannes Film Festival, but received rather coldly by critics. The actor had also made a short film in 1993 as well as five clips for the singer Vanessa Paradis, his former spouse.
