John DeLorean’s Daughter Will Build Her Own Modern DeLorean

The reinvention of the famous DeLorean DMC-12 that we finally saw earlier this year is far from pleasing all enthusiasts. Called Alpha 5, it is the work of DeLorean Motor Company, the Texas-based company that bought the assets and inventory of the original manufacturer when it closed its doors.

Among those who do not digest it, there is Kat DeLorean, the daughter of the famous John Z. DeLorean. However, she did not just express her disgust on social networks: she responds with her own modern vision which she intends to produce from January 2023.

An official unveiling is expected by the end of the year. Meanwhile, simulations of the car – which will be called Model-JZD in honor of the creator who died in 2005 – have just been published and show a design that is certainly futuristic, but closer to the spirit and style of the original than said Alpha 5, starting with the slightly more angular silhouette. Of course, the gull-wing doors are there.

No technical details have been provided at this time. We guess that the Model-JZD will have a fully electric motorization.

With a strong engineering background, Kat DeLorean is partnering with a new company called DeLorean Next Generation Motors, or DNG Motors, based in Detroit. It says it has some of the best minds in the auto industry, including part of the team that helped develop the DMC-12 more than 40 years ago.

Kat DeLorean’s mission will go beyond the car itself since her plan is to launch an engineering program in American high schools in order to encourage the next generation and promote access to specialized automotive training centers and university engineering programs.

We’ll get back to you with images and information on DNG Motors’ new reimagined DeLorean in a few weeks. To be continued!
