Engraved with the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin just before Christmas 2022, this CD is a tribute by the Tetzlaffs to their friend Lars Vogt, who died on September 5, 2022. The Tetzlaffs, who, with Vogt, formed an admirable trio, appear here as invested of a mission. Their approach, breathless but always human, contrasts with the many versions of Double concerto where soloists come to strut and show off their beautiful sound. Such welcome ardor is obviously perfectly relayed by the direction of Paavo Järvi (he replaces Robin Ticciati, initiator of the project), whose biting interpretations of Beethoven, Brahms and Schumann are known. The most surprising moment of this new version is the andante, so lilting that it almost becomes feverish. The surprise of the disc is the addition of 22e Violin Concerto by Viotti, a work that has disappeared from the repertoire and whose interpretation by Arthur Grumiaux in 1970 had become legendary. More than 50 years later, here is this little gem illuminated by Christian Tetzlaff.
