Johanna Konta announces her retirement

(London) Britain’s Johanna Konta announced her retirement from professional tennis on Wednesday, saying “her tank is empty”.



Konta, who is 30, has reached fourth in the world and won four career trophies on the WTA Tour.

She became the first British player to advance to the semi-finals of the Wimbledon tournament in 39 years, in 2017. She was also a semi-finalist at the Australian Open (in 2016) and the French Open (in 2019).

Konta confirmed her decision on social media, adding that she is grateful that she was able to “live her dreams”.

In an interview with the WTA website, Konta added that she no longer had the energy to work hard to get back into the elite of her sport.

Konta, who was born in Australia, concluded the year at 113e global level.
