“This visit serves to show solidarity with Israel, but it also aims to tell Israelis the limit they must not exceed”said Tuesday October 17 on franceinfo the former Israeli ambassador to France Elie Barnavi, on the eve of a visit to Israel by American President Joe Biden and on the 11th day of the war triggered by the bloody attack of the Palestinian Islamist movement on Israeli soil.

“It’s almost a first. Joe Biden has never traveled to a field of operation other than in Ukraine”explains the former ambassador. “There is both strong support and at the same time this visit must have a deterrent effect, with a warning to tell Israel not to go too far”he continues.

“The President of the United States has enough to convince Benjamin Netanyahu and his governmentadds Elie Barnavi. The polls are disastrous for him and the pressure is mounting. Biden has the means to force him to do things he doesn’t necessarily want to do.”
