(Washington) US President Joe Biden will deliver a prime-time speech on Thursday about the “constant battle for the nation’s spirit” from Philadelphia’s Independence Hall, the White House announced Monday.

Presented as an important speech, less than two months from the midterm elections, the speech will focus on the fact that the position of the United States on the world stage and its democracy are threatened.

Mr. Biden will talk about the progress that has been made to protect democracy at home, but also how rights and freedoms are still under attack, the White House explained.

The president will clearly state “who is fighting for these rights, for these freedoms and for democracy”.

The Democratic president is increasingly trying to frame the November election as a choice for voters between “ultra-MAGA Republicans” – a reference to former President Donald Trump’s “Make America Great Again” campaign slogan – and the Democrats.

Last week he told his supporters that they had to “literally vote to save democracy once again”.
