The American president made a historic announcement on Thursday, March 7, asking the army to build a temporary port on the coast of Gaza, in order to deliver humanitarian aid to Gazans.
Under the applause of Democrats in the American Congress, the President of the United States, Joe Biden, although a fervent supporter of Israel, spoke for the first time of the suffering of Palestinian civilians. The head of state announces that he is mobilizing the American army to increase humanitarian aid to Gaza.
“I am ordering U.S. armed forces to conduct an emergency mission to establish a temporary port on the coast of Gaza that can accommodate large ships carrying food, water, medicine, and temporary shelter.”declared Joe Biden on Thursday March 7, from the podium of the American Congress.
A delay of several weeks, in an emergency situation
It should take several weeks to put this system in place. But time is running out: the airdrops of recent days are not enough. Famine threatens 2.2 million Gazans, after five months of bombing. Europe should also transport aid by sea from Cyprus, where the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, is currently located.
