Joe Biden “congratulated” Argentinian President-elect Javier Milei

(Washington) US President Joe Biden spoke with Argentine President-elect Javier Milei on Wednesday and “congratulated” him, the White House announced.

The democrat “congratulated him and discussed with him the importance of continuing to build on the foundations of our solid bilateral relations”, three days after the victory of the ultraliberal and anti-system in the presidential election in Argentina, according to the same source.

A more detailed press release on this exchange will be published later, specifies the White House.

The ultraliberal economist Javier Milei, with controversial positions, against abortion and even on climate change, won the vote on Sunday against the centrist Minister of the Economy Sergio Massa.

His victory opens a period of uncertainty for the country’s economy, to which he promises shock therapy.

The head of American diplomacy Antony Blinken congratulated Mr. Milei on Sunday, welcoming “the strong participation and the peaceful conduct of the vote”.
