He is the oldest sitting president in American history. Joe Biden had his routine medical examination on Wednesday February 28, at a time when his age raises questions about his ability to govern, doubts readily exploited by the Republican opposition. The Democratic leader remains “apt” to carry out his duties and has not experienced any significant change in his state of health, declared his doctor following this medical examination. Joe Biden “continues to be able to carry out his duties and fully assumes all his responsibilities without any exemption or accommodation”assured Kevin O’Connor.

Wednesday morning, the American president spent 2.5 hours at the Walter Reed military hospital, in the suburbs of Washington (United States), for this annual medical visit. This is the last one before the presidential election on November 5. The doctors “think I look too young”, joked the Democrat, questioned by journalists about this medical assessment. In February 2023, Dr. O’Connor concluded that Joe Biden was “in good health”, “vigorous” And “apt” to fulfill its functions. He then had one removed “small” cancerous lesion of the skin.

A majority of Americans concerned about the subject

The Democrat is running for a second term, at the end of which he would be 86 years old. He is almost guaranteed to face his predecessor Donald Trump, 77, during the vote in November. Images of a president tripping on stairs, confused remarks during speeches and suspicions of memory loss… Joe Biden’s ability to govern until the end of a second term raises questions within the American electorate, and undermines his chances of re-election.

Donald Trump, almost assured of winning the Republican Party nomination for November, nicknames his opponent “Sleeping Joe” and never stops making fun of his hesitant approach. “Biden is not too old, he is too incompetent!”recently wrote the former president, who is not himself free from slips of the tongue or confusion in his speeches.

In an NBC poll, 76% of voters surveyed said they were concerned about Joe Biden’s physical and mental capacity to serve a second term, compared to only 48% for Donald Trump.
