Joan Didion, a leading figure in the literature of the real, is no longer

She was one of the leading figures of the new journalism, a profession many embarked on after reading her brilliant prose. Award-winning author, respected intellectual, American Joan Didion died on December 23 at the age of 87.

After documenting the counter-cultural movement in the 1960s, she migrated to more socio-political concerns.

Published in 2005, his autobiographical essay The year of magical thinking, on mourning for her spouse, won her, among others, the National Book Award and the Medici Prize.
