Comedian Jimmy Kimmel will present the Oscars ceremony for the third time, the organizers of the most prestigious ceremony in Hollywood announced on Monday, November 7, as it tries to recover after a controversial 2022 edition.
The 54-year-old presenter, who hosts the entertainment show Jimmy Kimmel Live!is seen by the industry as a safe bet to present the 95th Academy Awards, the last edition of which was tarnished by Will Smith’s slap in the face of comedian Chris Rock, on stage. “Being invited to present the Oscars for the third time is either a great honor or a trap”quipped Jimmy Kimmel in a press release.
“In any case, I am grateful to the Academy for proposing me so quickly after everyone had said no”joked the host, who had already assumed this role in 2017 and 2018. During its premiere, in 2017, a blunder was committed when La La Land had been accidentally announced as the winner of the award for best picture, in fact awarded to Moonlight.
Academy Director Bill Kramer and Academy President Janet Yang described Jimmy Kimmel as “the perfect host” for the ceremony. The comedian will have the heavy responsibility of raising audiences, which have been at half mast for several years, although they rebounded last year.
