Jimmy Garoppolo throws four touchdown passes in win over Cardinals

(México City) Jimmy Garoppolo threw four touchdown passes, including two to Brandon Aiyuk and George Kittle, and all 49ers San Francisco won their third straight game by beating the Arizona Cardinals 38-10 Monday night in Mexico City.

It was the fifth regular season NFL game played in Mexico City and the first since 2019. Nominally, it was a home game for the Cardinals, but the Estadio Azteca crowd of 78,427 festive and boisterous fans strongly favored the 49ers. They were particularly deafening when Kittle and Deebo Samuel each scored from 39-yard majors.

The 49ers (6-4) have won five of their last seven games and are tied with the Seattle Seahawks for the lead in the Nationals West Division. Garoppolo had another effective performance, completing 20 of 29 passes for 228 yards.

The Cardinals (4-7) played their second straight game without starting quarterback Kyler Murray, who is suffering from a hamstring injury.

Replacement Colt McCoy was 3-1 in his starts over the past two seasons, including a win over the Los Angeles Rams last week, but he couldn’t recreate the same magic in Mexico.

McCoy found takers on 24 of his 34 passes for 218 yards, but one of his passes was intercepted. The 49ers hit him hard several times, inflicting three sacks on him.
