This is what several sources have indicated, including the Sportsnet network. The 72-year-old man will have, among other things, the task of finding a GM that he can guide as a mentor.
Rutherford held this position with the Carolina Hurricanes dealership from 1994 to 2014 and then served as GM of the Pittsburgh Penguins from 2014 to 2021; he quit his job on january 27th. The one who was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame as a builder in 2019 has three Stanley Cups to his name.
In Vancouver, the past few days have been eventful. Head instructor Bruce Boudreau took over from Travis Green, fired Monday, along with GM Jim Benning, among others. Since his arrival, the club have signed two straight wins, winning 4-0 against the Los Angeles Kings on Monday, then 2-1 in a shootout against the Boston Bruins on Wednesday.
