The New York Jets have agreed to terms on a one-year contract with Mike Williams, the team announced Tuesday.
The former Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver visited the Jets’ facilities Tuesday and was scheduled to visit other NFL teams. However, the Jets did not let him leave without a deal.
NFL Network first reported the pact, saying it would bring the 29-year-old $15 million.
Williams will provide another quality option for quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who already has wide receiver Garrett Wilson. The Jets should therefore have a better offensive unit than last year.
Rodgers should be back to full fitness after tearing his Achilles tendon in his first game with the Jets last season. In addition, the New York team added blockers Tyron Smith and Morgan Moses, as well as guard John Simpson during the off-season.
Williams will also return to the game after a significant injury. He tore his ACL in the Chargers’ third game, in 2023, and did not play afterward. He then caught 19 passes for 249 yards and a touchdown. He was released by his former team last week.
Williams, seventh selection in the 2017 draft, made 309 catches for 4,806 yards and 31 majors in 88 games on the circuit.
