They received their invitation card. The French Tennis Federation (FFT) unveiled, Tuesday, May 9, its wild cards for the main draw of Roland-Garros. Jessika Ponchet (201st in the world, or 10th in France) and Arthur Fils (57th or 5th in France) obtain a “Race France” wild card. Clara Burel (97th in the world or 2nd in France) and Hugo Gaston (105th or 9th in France) receive the “International Race” wildcards. A precious sesame for the players who therefore avoid going through the qualifying tournament.

A step that will not escape Benoît Paire, who reached the round of 16 of the main draw in 2019. Back on the challenger circuit, theAvignonais, current 160th in the world, was not invited.

These invitations were also distributed on the basis of the “Destination Roland-Garros” operation, a classification “on merit” of the best Tricolores, indicates the FFT press release, but who are not qualified directly thanks to their ATP and WTA ranking.

Unlike the latter, the Race only takes into account the points earned over the season as well as the accumulation of the 18 best results of each player. “Note that Jessika Ponchet was ahead of the ranking by Océane Dodin, guaranteed to enter the table thanks to her WTA ranking in mid-April. The situation is the same for Arthur Fils, ahead of the ranking by Luca Van Assche and Grégoire Barrere, ‘direct entrants'”, the statement said.
