Jessica Pegula beats Amanda Anisimova to win National Bank Open for second straight year

American Jessica Pegula won the WTA 1000 tournament in Toronto on Monday, beating her compatriot Amanda Anisimova in the final in three sets (6-3, 2-6, 6-1) and 1 hour and 28 minutes of play.

With this success, the 6e world player retains her title acquired last season in Montreal.

Pegula was initially able to count on her consistency, precision and management of major events. A breakdown at the start of the match which immediately put pressure on the young Anisimova (22 years old).

The latter then tried to react by using her natural power, without success, since she committed a whopping 28 faults in the first set. Pegula won the set by losing only one point on her serve.

It was not until the second set that Anisimova showed a surge of pride with a first break at 1-1, then a second at 4 games to 2. She then committed only 9 faults and won the set 6-2.

The third set went completely in Pegula’s favor, winning 17 of the first 20 points and then proceeding without giving her opponent a chance.

At 30, Pegula wins the third WTA 1000 of her career.
